Follow: Logging Out and Leaning In, a serial non-fiction book available only to Letters subscribers.

You’re probably reading this on your cell phone. And just before you read this, you probably saw something else that made you mad. A controversial hot take. A perfectly-primped-and-primed mom influencer with her five children in identical rust-toned overalls. A “Christian” influencer holding not-so-Christian opinions.

Follow is an 9-part serialized book that’s equal parts hope-filled invitation and steadfast anthem to find freedom from social media practices that are hurting our souls and crushing our spiritual lives.

Because following Jesus doesn’t take place on a cell phone. You don’t have to give in to the cultural captivity of social media. Follow will help Catholics everywhere step forward into faith by logging out of the echo chamber and leaning in to the world around us—the kingdom gift we’ve been given.

Follow will be available to all subscribers to our Substack newsletter, Letters from a Catholic Feminist, and released in serial form. I’m living out my lifelong dream of publishing how Charles Dickens and Louisa May Alcott did—piece by piece. From April to December, Letters subscribers will receive a chapter of Follow, as well as a worksheet to help themselves narrow in on how they want to use (or not use) social media to bring about the kingdom of God. Get signed up today by subscribing to Letters From a Catholic Feminist.

We’re living in a world where it’s hard to see the Gospel.  Let’s change that, shall we?

In a sea of clickbait articles, bite-size content, and an utter lack of nuance, it’s time to dive deeper into what we’ve learned as Catholic feminists.

As one of the first spaces on the internet for Catholic women who claim the title feminist, I set out to do what believers in Jesus should do: focus on learning-while-doing a little more than hashtags and hot takes. Because Catholic feminist isn’t just a line you put in your Instagram bio: it’s rooted, spirit-filled living that helps guide others towards Jesus and justice.

And when you know what the Bible says, but no clue how to actually live church teaching in our 21st century world…

…pull up a chair.

Hey Siri, play some Audrey Assad, we ‘bout to reach out past the fear where doubt becomes wonder.

For 4 years, I hosted the Catholic Feminist Podcast, a top-ranked spirituality show that was featured on shows like Pantsuit Politics and Jen Fulwiler. Two books and two million downloads later, I hung up my microphone and picked up my pen to bring you Letters from a Catholic Feminist, a just-about-weekly digital newsletter from me to you featuring an essay on a current event through a Catholic Feminist lens, book recommendations, and whatever else fits my fancy.

It’s not just me, blathering on for you. We are learners-while-doers; we’re movers and shakers. We’re a community. That’s why we have comments enabled, so that I can interact with you *not* on a platform that makes me want to vom (…Facebook).

By subscribing to Letters from a Catholic Feminist, you’re entering a community that embraces you for who you are. Your questions. Your messiness. Your inability to sit still + keep quiet. Your longing for the Lord. Your intuition.

What do we talk about? Well, the usual: sex trafficking and prayer and pro-life issues. But also…race essentialism. The Catholic Celebrity Machine. Cancel culture. Front porch discipleship. We’re bringing what we’ve learned on the podcast into modern issues that need a closer look, and I want to hold up a magnifying glass alongside you.

HERE ARE THREE FULL-O’-CRAP LIES YOU MAY BE HEARING:

“You don’t need to define yourself as Catholic feminist, you just need to be Catholic and everything else will fall into place.” Um…then why do we call ourselves things like pro-life? Or anti-racist? Because—yep, Catholicism is all of those things. But it’s important to name and claim our beliefs.

“Feminists hate women who stay at home with their kids.” Listen, sister—I stay at home with my kids. I even dabble in homeschooling the preschooler. So don’t come at me with that nonsense, please and thank you. Feminists want you to find the path God has called you to.

“I don’t need to know about things like politics as a feminist—it doesn’t affect my life.” Girl, I hear that. I’ve gone through many seasons where I plugged my ears to the world around me. And you absolutely need breaks from heavy topics and time for true respite with the Lord. But as Gospel believers, we have a responsibility to pay attention to how policies affect our sisters and us—which they do!
